Date format in Access

I have an access report which I print by clicking a button on a form. The
report prints details for a period between START DATE and END DATE which the
user enters on the form.

When I enter a date like 01/08/2003 (1 August 2003) the corresponding query
treats it as 08/01/2003 (8 January 2003) even though my system date is
English UK.

What could be the problem.
