Date disappears behind toolbar

I'm new to XP and find it odd. Some days, the date is barely visible, hiding
behind the toolbar. Is this is a known issue or do I have a software problem?

I have a Sony Vaio SZ2HP-B. 6 days old!

This is a known problem with Windows XP (and previous versions as well).

Someone posted to use STart Menu | All Programs, right click and select Sort
by Name ... and to do this twice.
Whether or not if it works ... I've never tested it.

I know if you kill Explorer.exe in Task Manager and then Run Task Explorer
it fixes it, but that's a little extreme.

I think you mean "taskbar" not toolbar. Using the right terminology
makes it more likely people will interpret your question correctly,
and makes archive searches work better too.

Assuming I interpreted you correctly, it's a known issue, and yes,
it's a software problem in Windows XP.

Please see

for the remedy.

Unfortunately for the masses there isn't any remedy, only quick fixes. Mine
now stays hidden on one machine I'm testing out a defrag app on. I have the
defrag app scheduled to run on 12 volumes/partitions at all times of the
day/night, the first thing it does when running is hide the description/info
popup behind the taskbar. After a day and a half I gave up resetting it.
