date comparison

I'm trying to compare two dates within an "if" statement
and having some difficulty.
I only want to execute the true statement if the date is
later than today's date... I tried using the "datedif"
function but it seems that it requires the first cell date
to be earlier than the second and in my data that's not
always going to be the case. It sounds pretty easy to me
but I can't seem to find the solution... thanks for the
help!
