Can anyone please help. The computer I am currently using keeps reverting to
a date and time in 2001 whenever it is turned off. I have to change the date
and time every time I switch on which is driving me mad.

I have tried to see what is causing the problem but cannot find anything. I
have tried updating and syncronizing with time.com but its just keeps going
back again when I switch off.

Sorry to be so dumb on this but I am a techno phobic. Any help in simple
terms would be much appreciated.

It is most likely that your CMOS battery has faded away and now your BIOS
settings have been lost. The BIOS settings will keep resetting every time
power is lost or the computer is unplugged because there is no way to save
the information (which is done with the aid of a CMOS battery).

Also check to be sure you have the correct time zone.

You need to replace your CMOS battery. Unless you have a laptop, this is
extremely easy to do. A new battery costs around $5USD.
