datasets disappear from designer surface

Developing in vb.net. Configuare an sqldataAdapter, then add a dataset
The dataset .xsd file appears in solution explorer and the dataset appears below the control design surface
Close the project
Open the project
The dataset is gone from the design surface. The .xsd is still in solution explorer

Why did the dataset disappear

I do not understand the question completly, but did you open the xsd file
again in the designer?

I did not open the files in the designer during this process. Are you thinking that opening the xsd files would have corrected the probelm?
