Database will not open

Hello

I have a real problem with my database (Access 2000) not opening. When I try to open the database it gives me a blank screen and none of the toolbar items besides a few work (they are blank like it's an empty database). I can't even get to the compact and repair stage since it doesn't open it that far. I also tryed to open a blank database to see if I could import any of the tables but it didn't see any. The database shows 6136KB so there must be something somewhere. I tryed every fix I could find including holding down the shift key, JetComp ( which was able to compact but not repair it), the Excel fix which gave me syntax errors, the module fix, I also copied and renamed it....... I don't know the cause of the problem either. I compact and repair almost every day and have no clue on what to do next. Oh, I also wen't to http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm. and couldn't find a fix there either. The database is not password protected but is used within a network (3 people max). If anyone can think of anything else that I might be able to do pls help!!!
Thank you

Have you tried the /Decompile option mentioned somewhere in Tony Toews'
articles (the link you posted).

If this is the one you are referring to the link doesn't go anywher
"Access seemed to continue to run an erased function that had been replaced with a new function of the same name in a new module of the same name as the old module. Michael Kaplan's answer "Turning off compile on demand will make this never happen".

Nope. See:

Sandy,
I just came across the same issue today, my case is
exactly the same.
Did you find a solution?
Regards
Jose

Hello again
I did check out this link and don't quite know how to apply this fix....I'm not an advanced user of access. Pls help again.

Sandy,
I did not find a solution, after reading a bunch of
articles I came to the conclusion that the DB was
basically gone, however I did manage to extract all the
data from the tables using XL, then I just copied the data
to the tables of a backup empty database and replaced a
copy of it in the server.
Now it is working.
Hope this helps.
Jose

If I could only get my tables out that would make me happy. If you don't mind telling me how you did it I would greatly appreciate it (extreme novice here).

Two suggestions:

- Create a new empty Database. Use File... Get External Data...
Import, and navigate to the damaged database. See if you can import
the tables.

- Contact Peter Miller at http://www.pksolutions.com. Bring your
credit card, it's a for-fee service (though IIRC he doesn't charge if
he's unable to salvage any data).

****Make a back-up of your database FIRST****

Use the Windows Menu Start / Run ...

to run the command

"FullPath to MSAccess.exe" "FullPath to YourDatabase" /decompile

Try also John Vinson's suggestion of creating a new (blank) database and
then importing objects from the existing database.

That didn't fix it either. After decompiling I created a blank database and tryed to import tabels but it still didn't show anything.

Thx again for your help

If the database is important enough for you to spend the money on, try one
of the commercial recovery services in Tony Toews' article. Peter Miller of
PK Solution offers free quote on database recovery.
