Hi
I have a database on a network that works ok with 4 users so long as it is
not opened by 1 user first. If the one user opens it first all others who
then try to open it get the following message:

The database has been placed in a state by user "Admin" on machinexxxxxx
that prevents it being opened or locked". I have looked at everything and
cannot find the answer can anyone help.

Do all the users have full permission to the folder on the LAN in which your
database file is stored?

Read/Write/Delete/Modify?

Hi Rick
All users have full access to the folder on the LAN - it is the Shared
Folder that all have full permissions to. As an excercise, I gave them all
administrator access for 10 minutes but that didn't make any difference. I
have looked at Admin group within the database and even tried adding them to
all that but still did not work. I looked at the .ldb file that locks the
database but stll no joy. Tried the Tools, Options to look at shared and all
ok - still stumped !!!!!

Does the problem happen predictably for that /user/ - or that /pc/?

Get the "bad" user to log on to a "good" pc. This will tell you whether
the problem is the user, or the pc.

So, the problem still occurs when a "good" user logs on to the "bad" pc
- yes?

Do a google groups search on: "database has been placed in a state"
(including the quote marks). There are lots of hits, maybe the answer
is in there somewhere.
