Data Showing thru from Contacts to New Emails & Calendar

I had a problem with my PC and I lost Outlook folders & data. I had backed
up my Contacts, though. (I'm now running Outlook 2000). When I imported my
Contacts back in (.csv file) they showed up correctly, but I don't know how
to link the email addresses from Contacts (so that they are recognized when I
compose new emails) and link things like birthdays/anniversaries so that
they show up in Calendar. Please tell me the steps to do this linking (or is
it called "Show Through?" ) I haven't been able to find out how to do it (I
used to know this!)

Thanks.

You need to configure your Outlook Address Book.
You need to specify not only your version but also your mail support mode
for us to answer.
Assuming it's Corp/Workgroup:
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.

Russ, thanks. it's Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.2711). I have an individual user
license for it though. I tried Tools -but Services is not listed there. is
it under something else?

I need the mode, not the version. If you have no Tools > Services, that
would suggest you are using Internet Mail Only mode. Look in Help | About,
line 2 to confirm.
If so, there's really not much you can do. IMO is a downsized, simple
version of Outlook that does not even support the Outlook Address Book, let
alone give you the option to repair it. It uses the Address Book from
Outlook Express.
Are you saying that you see no entries at all when you open your Address
Book view? Are you certain your Contacts Folder is populated correctly after
this import?

Russ: unfortunately, the mode is Internet Mail only. So I guess my only
choice is to get a later version of Outlook now. Thanks for the info.

Not necessarily. In IMO, the "Outlook" Address Book is the Windows address
book. There are ways to repair that, but they do not involve Outlook. The
first thing to do is simply reset your sharing options to make sure the
Windows Address Book is displaying your Contacts data.
To do that, go into Outlook _Express_ and open the address book there. Go to
Tools > Options...
If sharing is disabled, enable it.
If it is enabled, disable it, restart OE, and re-enable it.
Do all of the above with Outlook closed.

Hi, again. I've done what you said re: Outlook express and allowing the
sharing of address book. In the menatime, I also uninstalled the earlier
version of Outlook and replaced it with Outlook 2002. However, I think I've
figured out where the real problem exists: when I imported the Contacts back
into it, my email addresses are not moving over. But it appears they are
mapped correctly. And when I view the Excel database where the Contacts are
held, the email addresses are there, and appear to be in the right fields.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Examine the email addresses in your Contacts Records. If they are not
resolved (underlined) they were not mapped correctly and therefore could not
appear in the Outlook Address Book.

OK, Russ, I went back and remapped. Had to try it a couple of different
times, but the third time it worked! Many thanks.
