I am hoping someone out there can help. I was working in Excel 2003 setting
up a template for some data that I would enter in during a metting later in
the day. After having the template created, I saved it and went to my
meeting. During the meeting I entered data into the cells and saving my
changes approximately every 5 minutes during the course of an hour. After
returning to my desk my system locked up and had to be rebooted. I rebooted
and began to open the Excel file I was working on. After opening it however
the file was in my saved folder but all of the data in the cells that I had
entered was gone. It was as if all of the work after creating the template
was never input leaving me with only the header names on a few cells. I tried
searcing for other folders in the event I had saved it elsewhere and no luck.
I tried the file recovery feature and detect and repair and still nothing.
Please help!

My first effort would be to do a search for all .xls files within the date
range the problem occured. Sometimes Excel can save things in very obscure
places. Look not only for the filename you had, but for an unusual
number-string filename with an .xls extention. Incidently, when you are
saving frequently to insure retention of data.....you should either save the
file to different directories and/or keep changing the filename with version
numbers.......something to keep multiple copies for security........otherwise
you are just writing back over the same file each time and if anything goes
wrong, goes wrong.......it ruins your only copy.

I think you can try a popular Excel file recovery tool called Advanced
Excel Repair to repair your unsaved Excel files. It is a powerful tool
to repair corrupt or damaged Excel files.

Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe

Hope the information will help.
