xp_rookie

Hello,

after a quite serious invasion by a worm/ IE pirate that several diferent
cleanup programs couild not remove, I re-installed win-Xp.

To my frustration I can no longer gety to my old files, because windows has
created new accounts an folders with .<computer name> added.

Does anyone know how I get to my old data?

regards,

Wilfried

I had a related problem when I reinstalled XP. I got the same effect -
every reference to my login in the file system now has my <login
name>.<machine name>. I also have two entries for Windows XP when I boot
up. I don't think I ever had xp_rookie's problem - I was always able to
access my old data, but I had to do a lot of work redoing paths for my
Desktop and my Start->Programs folder. Most of the time I just reinstalled
everything. Hopefully, you won't have that issue.
The reason I reinstalled XP was because I tried to use a Boot Manager
Program - V-Com's System Commander - to be able to access a Unix Variant on
a second disk, as well as Windows, and somehow System Commander was not able
to reconstitute my Boot Record to get back to Windows. When I reinstalled
XP, however, there was no data loss.
Anyone know of a reliable Boot Manager Program that they might be using
to set up an optional Boot of a Unit Variant?
