Data fields in excel needed to import contacts to outlook

I'm trying to import contact details data from my excel 2003 spreadsheet into
outlook 2007. I've tried to map the data fields correctly but I'm not sure
what they are. I looked in the outlook data file page and very few fields
were present/ Whatever I do to the excel document, I keep getting the
following message
"outlook unable to retrieve the data from "my file name". Verify that you
have the correct file, that you have permission to open it and not open in
another program.
I've checked all of these and am still unable to import the data.
Please advise.

Create a contact in outlook and export that to an excel file. Compare the
two.

Have you named the range?

How and what do I neame the range?

Select the data and in the box next to the formula bar type in a name.
Anything you like.
