Data Execution Prevention on Windows Explorer

Someone help! I'm getting the Data Execution Prevention message whenever I
open anything that requires Windows Explorer to work (My Computer, My
Documents, Recycle Bin, Control Panel, etc). It's saying that Windows
Explorer will be closed due to the DEP. I can still use the "Search"
function through the Start Menu, and access My Documents and the other stuff
that way (still through the Search), but not by clicking on it directly. Any
and all help will be GREATLY appreciated! I'm deploying to Iraq in less than
a month and need my laptop to be working! lol

Hi,

See if the my post here helps.

It is possible that one of the shell extensions has caused this DEP error.
I'd isolate the problem by disabling the third-party shell extensions one at
a time and test the behavior. ShellExView can help in this case.

Thank you so VERY much for your help! If anyone else is monitoring this
post, using ShellExView I discovered that the extension AcroIEHlprObj Class,
a Browser Helper Object, was causing my problems. Thank you again so very
much!

Will,

Are there any events registered when the DEP error occurred?

How do I view the error messages registered in Event Log?:

Check the "System" log also.

Ramesh,

I have been having the same problem as another gent on here with DEP
errors when I try and access certain things using windows explorer.

I installed ShellExView and ran it and disabeled all third party
extensions one at a time and tried to access netwrork connections
(previously i couldn't as the DEP windows explorer error came up) but
even after i had disabeled all 3rd party (the ones in pink right: : ))
the problem was still there.

any help would be great.

thanks

Will

I just did a fresh re-install of Windows XP SP2. I get occasional DEP errors
on Window Explorer. I haven't figured out a pattern. There's a bare minimum
of sofware and drivers installed on this machine.

Will this work on Windows 2003 Server? All references I see to this issue
point back to XP.
