Data enry boxes not working

Access 2007 form box not working.
I have 2 boxes on my data entry form that are tabbed over each other. They
have white boxes in them that I should be able to enter data and have it
stored to the record. I put text boxes in them when I designed the form and
they are tied to a column in the database view. BUT when I try to type in
the boxes, nothing happens, not even a sound, as when I mistype.

Can anyone help?
 
I no longer have anything in the boxes, they are both gray areas on the form.
I am starting over I guess. Anyway I want to enter free form text
(discriptions of problem & Fix) and have them stored in the record when saved
and closed.
Do I need to make a field on the datasheet and link it to these boxes, or
make something in the gray areas and them tie it to the record? (Ps I last
worked in Access 97 so am rusty) Thanks......
