My cousin tries to connect to me using remote desktop, but says he gets a
data encryption can't connect message. i looked in the microsoft site and
it's no help the info they give which is the same as anything else. I can
connect locally and remotly using my own ip from my own pc. So why is he
getting the data encryption message and can't connect and what do i need to
do to fix that? i have port 3389 in my router forwarding to the pc. I've got
win xp pro sp1 using the critical updates etc.

Open Event Viewer and check if you have any related messages that have been
logged there.

BTW., are you both in the same network and can he ping your ip address from
his machine.

He is in another location and can ping me etc just fine. Not on my local
lan.
Event viewer doesn't show anything I understand.
