About 10 years ago, I put a lot of personal data (home inv, music cds,
books, etc) into a program called "ORGANIZE! Your...". It was created
by HomeCraft Software, Tualatin, OR.

The software had the ability to convert data to ASCII or dBase III. I
have some of the files in dat format. I would appreciate help in
getting the data into an Access file. You are my last hope before I
begin from scratch. Thanks

Roscoe

What is the file format of the .DAT files? Assuming it's the ASCII export,
the problem is probably that Access won't recognize .DAT as a valid file
extension for import. Try renaming the file to .TXT and see if it works.

Thanks for your reply. However, it did not work to change to .txt file.
All ??? and crosses.

The .DAT extension has been used by many different software publishers for
proprietary data file formats. It's impossible to deduce anything about the
format of the file solely from the extension. It could be any common format,
or it could be a completely custom and proprietary format. My advise would
be to search for the program and/or publisher name on the web and in the
newsgroup archives at www.google.com/groups
