.dat file

A co-worker sent me a list of names via email and it
downloaded to my desktop as a .dat file. I don't want my
co-worker to know how dumb I am because I don't know how
to open and read a .dat file. Short of calling him and
confessing my lack of knowledge, how do I open a .dat
file? Thanks.

Hi,

A .dat file is a format used with many different programs. It needs to be
opened with the same program that was used to create it. Tell your coworker
to resend the file as a .txt or .csv file so that you can properly import it
into whatever program you are using. He/she should know better than that.

To temporarily check the .dat file, right click it and use 'open with' and
select wordpad - do not use the option to "always use this program....",
make sure that is unchecked before opening the file.
