A series of dashes ---- will turn into a line. The line
cannot be deleted. How can the line be deleted?

Hi Lew,

As soon as you see the line appear after having hit enter, do CTRL-Z (Undo)
to bring back the dashes.

Otherwise, if the line is already there:
Place your cursor in the paragraph immediately above the line;
Select Borders & Shading from the Format menu;
Select None (top left corner);
Click OK;
Done!

Cheers!

Click on the paragraph above the line, click "Format", "Borders and
shading", click the "Borders" TAB, and click "None". To turn it off
completely so it never happens again, click "Tools", "Autocorrect
options...", click the "Autoformat As You Type" TAB, then uncheck "Border
lines".

When Word does that automatically I usually just press undo and it changes
it back to the way it was or how the user really wants it.
