Damn! now "Show Clock" is greyed out

In a post below I wrote about trying to get the long date to show in the
systray instead of the short date. Somehow, fiddling with regional settings
etc. , now the clock is gone and the option in start menu options to "show
clock" is greyed out. Help!

Did you read my reply to your original post? I use the long date but
when I put the task bar down three it still shows the short date.
 
I must be missing something obvious. Any way, I will have to be content
with the short date
