What's with this Windows Mail in Windows Vista? I can't use my POP3 mail
servers/accounts... so what is the good of it? The least Microsoft could
have done is to discribe how to use my Outlook Express mail accounts with
Windows Mail...
Can anyone help..... Microsoft, Maybe? ... since I spent $187 to get Windows
Vista on my new machine!~!!!!!!

Doc,

WinMail does work with POP accounts. It doesn't do webmail accounts.

Who is your email with?
They should have a webpage telling what the server names are, and any port
numbers

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be due to my McAffee security.
If you're using McAffee, try to remove it and see if it helps. I was told by
Microsoft tech support that Vista/Office aren't compatible w/McAffee. Good
luck!

I have another problem, i was hoping that you could help?
I cannot delet the emails from my deleted box. It states that an unknwon
error has occured. Is there anyway to get rid of this?

Thanks

I'm confused about the compatibility issues listed below. I bought a new
laptop in February 2007. It was pre-loaded with Vista & McAfee.
Was this incompatibilty discovered recently? I dont see why it would be
loaded together if they couldnt work together...I have had a new laptop for 2
months & a new unfamiliar Operating System (VISTA) and am running into
constant problems.
Mainly, Incompatibilty issues. Its incompatible with Norton Internet
Security 2007, but my system constantly reminds me that I am not running
Anti-virus software.
After spending a few thousand dollars already, I am not will to go out and
buy all new software .

Back on topic: When my laptop crashed, The repair people backed up my files
& Outlook express files on DVD. I cant find any info out there as to how to
import my 5 e-mail accounts and folders/e-mails. I use Road Runner/Time
Warner Cable (nycap.rr.com)

I have wasted so much time trying to get my laptop up to where my other
laptop was...Does anyone know how to do this?

1) Create a folder in Explorer and name it C:\Old Mail

2) Copy ALL the dbx fles from OE6 to the C:\Old Mail folder on the Vista

machine. Be sure to include the Folders.dbx file, it is

required...................

3) File | Import | Messsages

4) Select MIcrosoft Outlook Express 6

5) Press NEXT

6) IMport mail from an OE6 store directory should be selected.

7) Press OK

8) Press BROWSE

Now, when you press the Browse button, Explorer will open.

There are three window panes. The two on the left are the ones we are

interested in and then only the one named FOLDERS is one we want to look

thrru, it's the one with the scrollbar.

At the top next to the forward and back buttons (two round buttons with

arrows) you should see an icon then your username and next to each of those

is a smal triangle.

On the triangle to the right of the icon, click on it and select Computer

Now, you should see the hard drive and the CD drives. double click on the C

drive icon. Probably named Local Disk (C:)

****

Now, in the right windows pane, you should see the Old Mail folder you

created and put the dbx files.

Double click on it to open it.

Ok, in the left windows pane, there should be some light highlighting for

the Old Mail folder to show it as selected.

At the bottom there is a line named Folder and probably shows Old Mail

listed there.

Delete the text Old Mail from the Folder line and then press the Select

Folder button on the botton right. Yes it should be empty.

When you select the Select Folder button, you are taken back to the browse

location and it should read C:\Old Mail

If it reads C:\Old Mail\Old Mail, go back and repeat the steps on the folder

select (just below the **** above.

If it does read C:\Old Mail then you are ready to finish the import.

Press NEXT and finish the import.

Get the free AVG 7.5 antivirus:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

During the install of AVG, there will be a screen where you
can decline installing the email scanning module. Be sure
to uncheck the email scanning option.

THANK YOU!
After going by your instructions it did actually work without any issues and
only took a few minutes. After all the searching I've done (keywords,Help
files, tutorials) I would get nowhere & the File transfer wizard isnt user
friendly, and I havent come across any instructions resembling yours or I
would have had it done 2 months ago. I'm not a pro at this, but not an
amateur either.

Since I at least imported my folders/e-mails for my main account (most
used). I will still have to figure out how to bring in the 4 other accounts
and their folders too.
but I am glad I at least got the main one taken care of. FINALLY!!!

Thank you for taking the time out to reply.

I will look into it ..i have no idea how long it will take for the
incompatibility issue to be resolved, but I should have something while I'm
waiting. THANKS!

Use a custom install to ensure you see the option to uncheck e-mail scanning
and scanning Office files if you get AVG.

Just a side note..
The latest AVG update has been creating some errors in Vista for some folks. It might be wise to set the update to manual and wait a few days for a new def.

Alternative suggestion AVast.

Did you install NIS on top of McAfee ?

NIS 2007 is Vista compatible, less of a resource hog than NIS2006(which is not). If purchased retail prior to Vista introduction, it needs an Live Update. During the install of NIS2007, the user should decline update check, set Live Update to manual. Run Live Update manually and update only the program updates, restart, then rerun Live Update for the balance. Once done, disable Email and Messenger and any Office scanning.

Final configuration - decide whether to user Vista Windows Firewall or NIS firewall.
- If you like to create a lot of rules, use NIS, if not use Windows.

Well, "DoctorSaul" certainly can't help. All he wants to do is whine
(whinge if he's from Britain), not describe his problem and get help.

Have you tried marking the message as read and then deleting it? That's
what I've been doing and so far it has always worked. Other things:

Try repairing the database with WMUtil from www.oehelp.com

There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail
and one in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New
If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no
messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some
record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they
are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now
just mark them as read and ignore them.

Not that I know of. (I assume you mean email, not posts.)
