About a month or so I noticed that when people sent me photos a few were
often damages..i.e. I could see a third of the picture, or the part of the
picture would be shifted. More and more there were a greater number of photos
that were damaged. At first I thought it was the Windows Picture viewer, but
i have installed Photoshop and they are the same there. I can see the
thumbnails perfectly.

Anyone have an idea. Thanks.

Do they look the same if you print them?

Do they look the same if you open them
on a different computer?

There's a possibility that you have
a damaged or outdated video driver.

If you reduce your Graphics Hardware Acceleration
as per the instructions in the following articles and
realize an improvement, it's an indication that you
need to update your video driver:

John, possibly deleting (cleaning up)
Internet temporary files could help here?

Anything is possible, especially if the
computer needs maintenance. In the
case with partial and split images I
would still suspect a video driver issue.

And...I guess it could be corrupted
..jpg files. Do you know of a free or
inexpensive software that might be
able to repair them?

If the files look the same way when
printed and appear damaged when
viewed on a different computer it would
confirm file corruption.

Sorry, nothing available if the file itself is corrupted.

Thanks for the update.

I couldn't find anything free either. The following
software claims to be able to repair corrupted
GIF, TIFF and JPEG files but it's expensive.

Sometimes "speedup" software and methods used/furnished by (usually) dialup
IP's can cause corruption of pictures.

That's an interesting statement, can
you provide any links to articles that
discuss this?

Very likely the photos were damaged in the process of being prepared
for attachment to an email.

Ask for them to be resent and see if the result is the same or
different.
