A friend dropped (!) her HP5550. It apparently suffered less damage
than you would expect. The module at the back has come adrift but that
seems to be the only problem. Does anyone know how to re-fit it? There
are 2 white plastic pieces which hook into the module and look as if
they should fit over the drive shaft and there is a stainless steel
(?) spring. I'm doing the good samaritan job without success so far.
Perhaps I should have walked by on the other side!

Is the problem with the two-sided duplexer? The printer should have had an
alternative back door that does not provide two-sided duplexing included in the
box. You could replace the duplexer with this panel, which would at least
allow printing until the duplexer could be repaired.

If you have a digital camera you might take a picture of the affected parts and
email it to me at (e-mail address removed) or post a question in the HP Business Users
Forum at:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/categoryhome.do?categoryId=415.
If no digital camera please give a bit more detail of which part has the
problem - some measurements to locate the parts affected to some reference such
ash the power cord or USB socket could help.
