Damaged Access Data File

I have a mdb file that was deleted. I restored it,
seemingly successfully. Access says "unrecognized database
format" when I attempt to open or compact/repair.
Can you help me??

Are you trying to open it with the same version of Access that was
previously working with it? You're not trying to open an Access
2000-format file with Access 97, for example, are you?
