Thinking of buying a D-Link DI624 wireless router. Anyone have any
experience or comments about this box? Don't want to buy a lemon.

Thanks

Carl

Hi,

I have one and it's working great, but just make sure that you get one that has
a firmware B or greater, since there is no support for WPA yet on the firmware
A.

BTW. I'm using it with a D-Link DWL-G650 which permit me to use the 54Mbps, and
it's worth it if you plan to use it extensively via your network

To chime in on this, the product you are mentioning itself is great,
and dlink generally makes great products. I'm typing with a beer in my
hand, but one thing you need to consider is whether or not you will
want to repeat this signal. Dlink has had a 54G repeater on their
website (DWL-G800AP) for about six months yet you can't buy it
anywhere. They just released the dwl2100AP which will act as a
repeater for your 624 but it is a little pricey if you can get your
hands on one. I'm an avid Dlink fan, but I noticed that Linksys has a
new firmware revision for their more available and affordable products
that will get you more flexibility. Just my two cents, and this info
could be dated a week or two. I install wireless for residential
clients and as soon as their laptop gets out of range they want to
know what their options are. For a good bit of time, with the 624
there weren't many. I tried to use the lower level dlink repeater with
the 614 router but it wasn't very effective. As a standalone router
however, the 624 is really nice and it has some range to it. Here is a
snippet from the Linksys firmware notes:

Version 2.06, December 16, 2003 (ver.2 initial release)
- Updated User Interface format and layout
- Updated wireless driver to support all versions of WAP54G hardware
- Adds AP Client Mode
- Adds Wireless Repeater Mode for WAP54G and WRT54G (requires fw
2.02.2 or above)

Hope this helps.

One handed typing while drinking a cool one...I'm impressed...:-)

Aactually, my mother in law bought me a football helmet that holds a
can of beer on each side with straws.
