D/L printer drivers over network

When you share a printer in XP, you are given the option
to install drivers for other OS's supposedly so that a
client attempting to share the printer can "automatically
download" the appropriate driver.

Up to now, the way I have been doing things is this:
If I have a printer physically connected to my XP computer
and want to print to it using my networked Win95 computer,
I go to "add printer" on the Win95 box, select "network
printer" and browse the net until I find it; and then
install the driver either from the Win95 drivers or "have
disk" and inserting a CD on the Win95 box.

How do I get the "automatically download driver" feature
to work? Do I have to set share permissions on some
system directory on the XP box? And then insert the net
address in the "have disk" location window?

On the XP system Printer / Properties
1.. To add additional drivers, on the Sharing tab, click Additional
Drivers.
2.. Under Environment, click the driver that you want to add, and then
click OK.
You will need to use the have disk button. The driver must use an inf based
install for this to work. If the only way to install is with setup.exe then
this will not work.

HOW TO: Configure Printer Settings in Windows 2000 Server

After you add the Win9x driver to the XP system, any Win95, 98 clients that
connect will not be prompted for the driver.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
