Why wont programs, etc work if I move them from the C drive to my D drive. (E AND F are DVD CD-R drives)
Is there any way around this, and if not what is the D drive for? Storage only?

You can't just move the folder across from C to D as all
the registration data contained in the Registry will point
to the original location on the C drive.

You would need to de-install it and then re-install it to
the D drive. Most install programs ask you where you want
it installed at the start of the install process.

Hope this helps

Hello!
If you originally installed an application into the C drive; then moved the
application ".exe" over to another partition, like the D drive, it's likely
that it will not work if it needs to have registry paths in order to make it
work. So, you'll likely have to re-install it to another partition if you
are trying to save space. however, I strongly recommend having the first
partition (C drive) for your Windows XP and the applications; and keep the
subsequent partitions for data.

When you install a program on the C: drive all references are made to that
drive. When you move the drive to D: windows
gets confused and cannot make the references and connections to the program.
Usually you can choose which drive to
install programs to.
