D: Drive does not work!

Last night I put in my Microsoft Word CDs (making holiday cards) and I guess
the CD is too scratched. Anyway, I pressed the eject button and nothing
happened. I pressed it again a few times and still nothing. A minute later
I tried it again and it finally opened.

Today I put in one of my computer game CDs, and the little cd icon popped up
next to my cursor, and flickered a few times, but my game never loaded up,
and I went to My Computer and checked the D: drive, and I double clicked and
it said "Please insert a disk into drive D:". So I thought maybe it was my
game, so I popped in a music CD, and still the same thing.

We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the disk drive (like the Microsoft
Troubleshooting thing says to) and still nothing.

I checked the hardware, it says for all of the statuses they are working
properly, so I don't know what is going on.

What is going on and how can I be able to use my D: drive once again?

Thank you.

Darlen you may want to open your drive and stick the extension hose of your
DustOff can in and spray it,it maybe just dirty

Thank you for the advice, I will try that...that is probably what it needs,
it is 4-5 years old, computer works great but we have pets and a dusty house.
