HI, I was trying to set up my slave drive to have limited access. I logged on
as administrator (safe mode) and edited the security settings. I left the
read access but denied write... I now have no access at all. I have scoured
the net and have been through all of the possible variations of suggestion -
even downloaded and run "file security manager", without success. Right
clciking any folder on C:\ or attempting to access File (so I can access
properties) causes the machine to hang.
Is there a way around the probelm by editing the registry.....?? or some
software or something.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks

Galen,
Just come back online after resolving the problem. I had tried all of the
suggestions, and been through all of the microsoft options- but they dont
tell you how to recover from the administrator being locked out!

I spotted something that wasnt related to my problem on the web, but thought
it was worth a try. The solution was to use Partition magic 8. converted the
NTFS back to FAT - really easy and definately not complicated.

Cheers

Rather drastic for a permissions problem, but I've used that method very
effectively - in combination with a DOS scanner - when dealing with a laptop
infected with an 'armoured' virus that couldn't be removed even in Safe Mode.

And a potential for data loss I understand though honestly I've never lost
any data while doing the above. I do - however - back everything up first.
But so far so good.
