How do I install Cyrillic fonts in Windows 2000 so that I
can easily change between English and Cyrillic for both
reading and typing?
Cyrillic *fonts* are _already_ installed, it's easy to verify -
just go to any Russian Web site, say
http://www.anekdot.ru
and you will see normal Russian letters. That is, Display
of Cyrillic text is Ok, because needed *fonts* are there.
What you are really asking for is *keyboard* support -
you need to add say Russian _keyboard layout_ to be able
to switch from English mode of *keyboard* to Russian one
to be able to type in Russian.
Detailed instruction for that is given in the
"Russian Keyboard: standard and phonetic" section of my site,
but shortly:
a) you need to know that you *must* have Windows 2000 CD-ROM
(unlike Windows NT 4.0/XP where needed files are there initially).
b) then you go to Control Panel - Regional Options -
General tab and in the bottom part of the screen find
"Language Settings for the system". There you need to check
a box next to "Cyrillic" - system then will ask for CD-ROM
and copy needed files from there, including keyboard support
files
c) Now you will be able to Add needed keyboard layout -
it will appear now in the list of available layouts.
