Hi,
How come when I try to install a software in Window XP,
there's an error message pops up, saying that:
Could not initialize installation. (CRC)
Does anyone know how I can solve this problem? Thanks.

Means corruption in something.Clean the CD or redownload the file (maybe from another source).

Hi Adrian,

A CRC error means that the copy doesn't match the original, so something is
interfering with the file copy process. Common installation problems are
usually cured by restarting the machine, then....

1) Delete the contents of the temp folders, there may be a file in there
interfering with the setup routine of the installer. Get both:

C:\Windows\temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

2) Turn off all other running programs, especially your antivirus software.
Use ctrl+shift+escape, if necessary, to "end task" on everything.

Hi,
Thanks in advance. There's lots of files inside the
Temp folder, if I delete that, will it cause problems?
And there's more than 1 drive inside my hard disc,
windows XP automatically dual boot the OS, and the
current drive that I am using is I: drive, so should I
delete the C:/Windows/Temp folder or I:/Windows/Temp
folder? Thanks a lot.

Delete both. Anything in temp is temporary. But Rick's advice was for the I one. We don't know and don't see what you see. Perhaps you could explain all and we'll be able to give more specific suggestions. EG If you aren't installing from CD then cleaning the CD won't help (obvious I know).

What, who, when, where is this program. When do you see the error. What is the exact text of the error. What type of setup program is it, windows installer, acme, installashield, wise, inf files.

When you download a program from the internet and
especially the FTP sites then one line in the CRC gets
changed on your machine. If you absolutely have to have
this program then you will need to get a hex editor and
find the line that is different and change it to match the
original. This is nearly impossible. I tried. I don't know
much about programming so I gave up. Look for an
alternative program. Have fun.
