Cyberpower UPS - 4 beeps

Any one using Cyberpower UPS's which have failed to the 4 beeps which the manual
only states to check with Cypberpower on possible repair via warranty.

Any one determined what the condition is that causes the 4 beeps?

Battery has gone bad?
Internal Fuse?

I have one of the Cyberpower 500SL that after working great for about 2 years,
after returning home from one of the numerous power outages I found it was dead,
and would not reset. It just makes 4 beeps and the battery outlets are dead, no
voltage.

Cyberpower was, well, less than informative about what caused this problem.I
figure its either the battery needs replaced or there is an internal fuse that
has blown that needs replaced. As from the indications from Cyberpower its
repairable at a cost, so it doesn't seem to be a total loss.

Any one diagnosed this situation and found an answer. I would like to repair
this unit and put back into service if its a simple battery change or internal
fuse repair. The lack of a substantial answer from Cypberpower just to make a
buck on a repair annoys me.

If everything is dead and still connected to a voltage source then check the
output to the batteries. If there is none, remove the battery and see if
that makes a difference.
If you have output then it might be the battery.
With these lower powered unit it is hard to tell when they crap out. I will
bet on either a charging circuit or battery problem. As for fusing I am not
familiar with Cyberpower.
Might be time to consider a new one from another company.

A UPS shuld turn on with weak or dead batteries. You should get a weak battery indication until the batteries recharge. With weak batteries you should get power from all outlets as long as you have AC input.

Many types of UPS's will not restart if the batteries are dead. Replace the
batteries to test. If you want to test the batteries you have, they must be
load tested, and would think you do not have the proper set-up to do this
type of test.

The UPS charger, and start-up circuits respond to the condition of the
batteries. If the batteries are not working properly, the logic control sees
them as defective. For safety reasons, the UPS will remain shut down until
this is corrected. An error will be indicated.

Many types of UPS's will not restart if the batteries are dead. Replace the
batteries to test. If you want to test the batteries you have, they must be
load tested, and would think you do not have the proper set-up to do this
type of test.

Perhaps a DMM to measure voltage,and a 55W headlight bulb?
Might give a crude good/bad indication.If it lights up the bulb
nicely,and the voltage doesn't sag too much,it should be okay..
But this is assuming it's charged in the first place.A car battery
charger set to trickle or low should be an okay charger to use,just
don't charge it too long,or let it get hot,or vent or anything like that.

Nope. Still just beeps like it did when I took it out of service several months
ago to look at when I had free time. Battery or no battery.

If you have output then it might be the battery.

NO output, ZERO, battery side is completely dead. When I walk in the door the
first thing is the remote to turn on the sat & TV. When nothing came on, I
thought there must be a power failure, but no alarms and non emergency lighting
was operative. Trust me you will know there is no power in my house. There are 4
UPS's in the computer room alone, 2 in my bedroom, 3 in the living room, and 2
in the kitchen.

With these lower powered unit it is hard to tell when they crap out. I will
bet on either a charging circuit or battery problem.

14VDC out of the charging circuit.

12.78VDC from the battery. I have several APC that I've picked up cheap that had
dead batteries. Put the battery from the 500SL into them, powered right up and
provided power. I'll charge it up over night on one of the APC's just to see if
that tricks it into restarting.

Theres something that I think is resetable inside this thing, or crapberpower
wouldn't be so willing to take it back and fix under warranty or for fee in my
case. This is a scam to make a buck. When questioned point blank for the cause
the silence from crapberpower was deafening.

As for fusing I am not
familiar with Cyberpower.

The board has an AUTO! BLADE fuse soldered to the bloody board. Its good that
its fused, but jeez, put it in holder at least so it can be changed with out
solder iron.

Might be time to consider a new one from another company.

The unit has already been replaced as I am not leaving a $1000.00 worth of TV,
DVD, Sat rx etc. connected to AC with out a UPS. The local power company is a
joke and as soon as I get the chance to build or purchase a whole house UPS to
operate till a generator kicks in the better. Every thing in my house is on
UPS's nothing electronic is left to operate with out one. I am not replacing
this stuff ever time a leaf hits a power line.
