Can someone tell me why Cyberlink Power DVD locks up where you can`t
click the controls, and when a DVD is inserted in the corrct drive it
gives a sign "NO DISC IN DRIVE". Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the "Windowx XP Basics" newsgroup!

Cyberlink might be able to help you...
Tried uninstalling/reinstalling the application?

Also, try another (free?) DVD app, you may have a bare bones one that is in
need of an upgrade.

Can Windows Explorer "see" the DVD. Even if a movie-type DVD it should ahve
some files visible in Explorer. If not, then think bad hardware. For
example bad DVD drive, or loose cable (power or signal), or bad DVD, or bad
IDE controller on the motherboard. Other possibilities include wrong format
of DVD (e.g., UDF, DLA), or wrong drivers. Is it only one DVD or all CDs
and DVDs that have the problem? If one, then bad media. If all, then look
into the drive hardware and software. If Explorer can see the files, but
Power DVD can not play, then check whether the version of Power DVD
compatible with XP? The version for win98/ME is probably not compatible
with XP.

Some DVDs will play, but this one was recorded on a DVD recorder and
played fine on a laptop, but would not play at all on a desktop here
at home. Both computers are Dell Computers and the desktop has 2 GB
RAM, Processor Speed 3.0 GHz.

Not all DVD readers are equal.
Can that DVD play on anything else in your home?

Yes, the DVD plays on my Dell Latitude, but it doesn`t play on the
Dell Dimension desktop.
