I have run MSAS on two machines. MSAS does not detect CWS
on either machine, yet other free scan sw does. Who's
right? From what I see posted here, I don't think it's
Microsoft. What is the best package to zap CWS in all
it's variants? Will any firewall or anti-virus stop it
from reappearing? Thanks

CoolWebSearch is a constantly mutating major nuisance. The best tool to
diagnose it is HijackThis, and expert advice. HijackThis shows all possible
traces of software, anything that MIGHT be malware, and lets an expert identify
the bad stuff manually.

Create a separate folder for HijackThis, such as C:\HijackThis - copy the
downloaded file there.

Then, run HijackThis ("Scan"). Do NOT make any changes immediately. Save the
HJT Log.
