I would like to select several slides from the slide
sorter mode of an existing presentation and then C&P into
the slide sorter mode of a new presentation. How do I
preserve the format of the orginal slides when C&P-ing
them into the new presentation with a different format. I
know I can do it by capturing the orginal slide as a
picture and then inserting it on a blank slide in the new
presentation, but then I can't operate/modify it. Please
advise. Thanks

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Mark,

What you are describing requires the Multiple Masters feature of PowerPoint
2002 or PowerPoint 2003. If you have either of these version and are not
seeing this capability, it might have been turned off inadvertently in
order to preserve backward compatibility. You can enable this feature in
PowerPoint 2002/2003 by:

1) Tools -> Options
2) Switch to "Edit" tab
3) Uncheck "Multiple Masters" in the "Disable new features" group of the
dialog
4) Click "OK"

With the feature enabled you will be given the option (when copying slides
between presentations) to either "Keep source formatting" <what you want>,
or "Use Design Template formatting" <the behavior you are currently seeing>.
