Hi. I can no longer use the cut and paste function on any application (Owrkd,
IE, Excel, etc). Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Thank you.

Apparently the blaster worm virus or one of its variants can cause this.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

I tried the virus scan (McAfee) in safe mode, and I bought Norton utilities
to see if it can fix any problems, but it's still there. I would really
appreciate any other suggestions that you might have.

No warning. But, when I cut or copy something and try to paste it, in MS

It looks like this may be the source of the problem. I did what you
mentioned (ie., clearing the windoes clipboard), but the program continues to
run with flickers of highlithgts and coaasiaonal flicering of the word "NO

Apparently the blaster worm virus or one of its variants can cause
this.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a
full system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and
anti-spyware software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe
Mode can be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to
conceal themselves in areas Windows protects while using them.
Safe mode will prevent those applications access and therefore
unprotect the viruses or other malware allowing for easier removal.

Hi. I can no longer use the cut and paste function on any
application (Owrkd, IE, Excel, etc). Does anyone know how I can
fix this problem? Thank you.

I have no earthly idea.

OK, we know, or think that we know, that something is not good with
clipbrd.exe.

What I do not know is where your two clipbrd.exe files are located.

We can expand a new clipbrd.exe file from your XP CD to try to replace the
one that XP uses to replace screwed up files.

clipbrd.exe normally exists in
C:\WINDOWS\system32
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

The clipbrd.exe in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache is used to replace the
clipbrd.exe in C:\WINDOWS\system32. However, if there is something wrong
with the clipbrd.exe in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache, which might be the
case here, then we have another problem. I honestly do not know.

Do a search on your machine for clipbrd.exe AND clipbrd.ex

Follow the instructions here...

HOW TO: Search For Hidden Or System Files In Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302347

If you happen to find a clipbrd.ex_ in your search above, that may change
some things.

In the mean time, if one does exist in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

You can expand one from the XP CD to C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

While we're at it we'll expand one to C:\WINDOWS\system32 also.

Here's how.

clpbrd.exe is on your XP CD listed as CLIPBRD.EX_ in D:\I386, if D is your
CD drive. The underscore (_) means that the file is compressed. To expand
it to the proper location...

Open a Command Prompt...

Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK

Insert your XP CD into your CD drive and enter the
following command:

EXPAND D:\I386\CLIPBRD.EX_ C:\Windows\System32\clpbrd.exe

Hit your ENTER key.

NOTE :
If needed, change D to = your CD drive letter
If needed, change C to = your hard drive letter

Insert your XP CD into your CD drive and enter the
following command:

EXPAND D:\I386\CLIPBRD.EX_ C:\Windows\System32\dllcache\clpbrd.exe

Hit your ENTER key.

NOTE :
If needed, change D to = your CD drive letter
If needed, change C to = your hard drive letter
------

EXPAND D:\I386\CLIPBRD.EX_ C:\Windows\System32\clpbrd.exe
EXPAND D:\I386\CLIPBRD.EX_ C:\Windows\System32\dllcache\clpbrd.exe

Note: In both the commands above there are only two spaces.
One here > EXPAND D:\I386 and one here > EX_ C:

Normally one would copy and paste these commands. ;-)
