Cutting and pasting changes format on destination slide

Most of the time (although not always), when I copy and paste a text
box or image from one slide to another, it changes the formatting on
the destination slide: The "insert text" boxes (from the master) will
suddenly appear on the slide or if there are already other images on
the page, then PPT will shrink the pasted image along with the already
present one so that they both fit neatly on the page. One thing I
(used) to love about PPT was that if you cut something from one page,
you could paste it in exactly the same position on the new slide. Is
there some preference I need to turn off. Obviously PPT is trying to
help me in some way, but it's NOT helping...

Try this and let us know if it does the trick:

Go to Tools > AutoCorrect. On the tab that says, "AutoFormat As You Type"
uncheck the bottom item that says "Automatic layout for inserted objects".

If you are using PPT 2002/2003 when you copy and paste a small "smart tag"
will appear. Click on it and choose "preserve source formatting."

You can also disable the 'autocorrect' options by going to TOOLS >>
AUTOCORRECT OPTIONS >> uncheck the bottom 3 boxes.
