Is there a freeware program that I could use to cut silence off of MP3
files? I ripped CD and the last song turned into a 15 minute song instead
of the 3 minutes it should be (12 minutes of silence ). Oh, if it leaves
the ID3 tags as they are it'd be great, but I could add them again after
cutting the song.

mp3DirectCut:

should do the job if you can overlook a few bugs. Works for me, but
maybe somebody has something better.

MP3Trim. The freeware version does one song at a time. The Pro version
supports batch processing.

It can also normalize the volume at the same time.

I was going to mention MP3Trim, but the freeware version only works on files
shorter than 7 minutes in length....

Is there a hidden track towards the end of that silent period? Normally
that's how hidden tracks work and it would give a valid explanation of the
15 minute song length.

Almost any sound editor can visually remove silence from an audio
waveform. Try audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net
