Matt

Everytime I try to cut and paste a file and move it to
another location on my harddrive, the computer freezes
for a while then refreshes without moving the file. The
same thing happens when I right click on my desktop too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, Matt.

When we Copy or Cut a paragraph, Windows puts it into the clipboard, from
which it can be Pasted into a new place. But when we Copy a whole file, the
clipboard is not involved. Windows just writes a copy of the file into the
new location. When we Move the file, Windows first Copies it, then deletes
the original. Unless the new location is in the same volume, in which case
it doesn't Move the file at all, but simply moves the directory entry that
points to that file.

Open two Windows Explorer windows and have them both visible on your
Desktop. Have one of them showing the folder where the file is now, the
other where you would like the file to go. Then use your mouse to
drag'n'drop the file from the old location to the new.

Use the right-hand mouse button to drag and a context menu will let you
choose which action to perform. Or use the left-hand button and it will
perform the default action: Copy to a different volume, or Move to a
different folder in the same volume.
