Word is so unpredicatable. I have shortcuts of my most used programs on the
toolbar to avioid going to the desktop or start menu to open them. all of a
suddes the setting changed and everything but photoshop is behind arrow.
now i must click the arrow, scroll down and click on the program. it's
driving me crazy that i can't figure out how to set it back, get rid of the
arrow.
thanks.

Change the settings on the Options tab of Tools | Customize. For menus, you
need to disable "Menus show recently used items first" or enable "Always
show full menus" (depending on version); for toolbars, you may have to show
the toolbars on two rows to accomplish this (check "Show Standard and
Formatting toolbars on two rows" or clear "Standard and Formatting toolbars
share one row").

no, that didn't work, if i understood your instructions. not sure what
"&quot" means. it's not about recently used items, it's having the icons on
the tool bar to open the program . it shows up in a row just below the start
icon. any program that's open is listed below this always on top list. i've
had this format for years and all of sudden it changed on me.

Okay, you're not talking about Word at all. You're talking about the Quick
Launch bar on the Taskbar in Windows. Hover your mouse over the divider just
to the right of the arrows and drag to the right to increase the width of
the QL bar. If that does not solve your problem, then you will need to ask
your question in a Windows NG rather than follow up here.
