Customizing OL 2000

Suddenly I can't get the "News" to stick when I add it to my toolbar. I can
drag it there and it will stay until I close OL. When I reopen OL "News" is
gone. Any ideas? Thanks.
 
You're sure this is Outlook 2000? We're only seeing this problem reported in
Outlook 2003.
 
Positive. This is the second or third time this has happened. I have no idea
what starts it. I did do a Detect & Repair to no avail.

Have you tried resetting the Menu bar to its default using the Customize >
Toolbars option?
What is set as your default news reader in Control Panel?

I just reset the Menu Bar. I couldn't find a default Newsreader in the
Control Panel (XP Pro) but when I open newsgroups the heading says "Outlook
Newsreader".

The default news reader was set to Microsoft Outlook. Resetting the Menu Bar
did not work.

Then you'll have to get more forceful. Close Outlook. Rename outcmd.dat.
Re-open Outlook. Note, you will lose and need to recreate any Toolbar
customizations that you made.

I did a search but could not find outcmd.dat. Please tell me where I can
find it.
