Customizing MY COMPUTER folder

I don't know what I did, but you know when you open up "My Computer" By
default on a new PC , it is in category view. There
are 3 or more "Categories" of items to view. One is FILES STORED ON THIS
COMPUTER, another is usually HARD DISK DRIVES, and another is DEVICES WITH
REMOVABLE STORAGE, then OTHER (if you ahve a portable device, MP3 player
etc....) . Even when I get out of this view method and look at it as a list.
and all of the available locations and drives are there to look at. When I
started setting thios Laptop up, my personal documents folder, which was
called "Family Documents" was there on all lists. Now it is gone??

In the categories view The hard drive is recognized and I can access ALL
files and folders from there, the CDRW/DVD is still there, no probs. But
somehow, in the FILES STORED ON THIS COMPUTER, where I once showed two
folders, one being "Shared
Documents" and the other WAS the My documents folder for my username
(FAMILY) is
now gone???! Is there a way to get specific folders listed there? or just
that one back. it was convenient to have the My Docs folder right there. AND
it would be even more convenient to be able to customize that view.

As a quick background, this is a BRAND NEW latop today. I was messing around
with sharing files and folders, and suddenly it disappeared.

Hi, Doug.

In the Windows Explorer, click View | Arrange Icons By, and make sure Show
in Groups is checked. You may also want to choose (by) Type in the upper
part of this context menu.

Is this what you were looking for?

Not exactly. The group view is fine, but the file which leads to all of the
"FAMILY'S DOCUMENTS" folder is gone from ANY view in My computer. Only the
folder that has "Shared Documents" is still there in any view. The C:\ drive
is still listed under drives, and the CDRW/DVD is still under removable
drives. Likewise they are all still there on any view with the excpetion of
that "FAMILY's DOCUMENTS" folder.
 
The file share or whatever security changes you made are probably the
reason. Try using System Restore to take you back to a time before this
started. Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

If you have TweakUI for XP installed, one of the settings is to show/hide
"Files stored on this computer"
