One can customize various components of the message list (the middle pane in
Outlook 2003) by right-clicking on the header and choosing "Custom..." This
only customizes the list for the folder that is currently open. Is there a
way to customize it for all folders or at least to copy the properties of
one folder into another?

Thank you.

YOu can create a named view that you can apply to any folder with View | Arrange By | Current View | Define Views.
