Customizing language

Win XP HE SP2

Hi,
1) How do I switch language for Windows?
2) Is it a problem thereafter to have some Apps in English and some in
Spanish for example--does it create some sort of conflict, etc.?

Switching language doesn't affect apps at all. Apps are in whatever language they are in. Perhaps you should be more specific on what you are asking.

OK Got it.
The main question was: I have just bought a new computer and gone thru
the Win XP set-up.
I chose Region where I live=US, Language I use most=English, and
Keyboard=US.
Howver, I wanted to know if I could re-run the set-up to switch to
Italian as yje Windows language, instead of English. I am not sure that
I can just switch language thru Control Panel--in fact I am almost sure
I can't change Windows language there.
Or I can use my recovery disk and perhaps be able to set-up Windows
again and choose Italian.
Except, I am not sure it will work. My Windows is an OEM version and I
am not even sure that even if I did chosse "language I use most=Italian"
it would install in Italian.
I don't mind re-installing as I have not even used the computer besides
Windows set-up and there is nothing of value on it yet.
 
Unless you order the language pack with the XP and Computer your XP is english only. Go back to where you bought it and see if you can order the language pack as part of the previous sale. Most places that sell computers have no idea the language pack exists so you'll have to hassle them.

Only english can change language. I've not used it as I only speak english. But each user can have a different language. As to the details I don't know. It's known as a MUI pack for Windows.

Office is the same (if you have it) - You need the MUI pack for Office.

NOTE: If you bought XP as a Retail package (without a computer) you cannot get the MUI pack. It is only available to large companies and with a new computer.

OK, so let me get this straight: If I did NOT order the language pack
(which I did not) then, no matter what I choose during Windows set-up,
it is in English--even if I chose "language: Spanish", correct?

You say go back to where you got the computer and hassle them--you mean
they should give me the language pack for free of do I need to hassle to
get it so I can BUY it from them? (Win is OEM not single package)

I just want to make sure I understand ur reply.
 
Yes. If you want the Start to say whatever start is in spanish then you need to beg and hassle shop to be able to buy.

You can type in spanish, you can have regional settings set to spain (dates etc), and spanish programs will work in spanish on any language version. And you can do it whenever you feel like in the control panel - no rebooting or running setup.

But if you want XP to look spanish then you need the MUI which you must beg to be allowed to add it to your previous order, and hassle them to look in catalog as they won't know what you are talking about.
