I would like to customize the buttons on the left of the keyboard (Help,
Mail, Web, etc) but the process does not work. When I go to ConPanel and
click on Keyboard and choose the buttons tab, none are listed nor do any
appear when I hit default configuration. I cannot figure out how to turn on
the feature. Only the Sleep button on the left is programmed to work. The
speak on/off and volume up and down work and so do the right buttons. Only
the programable ones cannot be customized and are emply. The computer is an
HP Pavilian a6057c model.
Thanks, Tom

The specialized function buttons on your keyboard are provided by
keyboard drivers, not the operating system (Vista). You need to go to
the keyboard mftr. (HP?) and download the latest keyboard drivers that
support Vista. If you don't see any on the keyboard support website,
contact the keyboard mftr.'s tech support.

Asked and answered already in vista.general. Please don't multipost.

That did it. New keyboard file loaded the buttons properly.
Thanks, Tom
PS, Sorry about multiposting...Mea culpa. Never again, I promise.

Excellent! Glad that sorted it for you. Thanks for taking the time to
let me know.

Hi, Tom.

What did HP say when you asked them about programming that keyboard?

My keyboard does not have the same buttons in the same places as yours.
There must be at least a thousand different keyboard designs on the market.
You MIGHT need a special driver from the keyboard vendor. For example, I am
using the IntelliType drivers from Microsoft for my Microsoft Wireless Laser
Desktop. It's not likely that my drivers would work for your keyboard.

That's why you need to ask whoever you got your keyboard from about drivers
for it. Or read the owner's manual that came with your computer or
keyboard. If the keyboard was part of your HP computer package, then ask
HP.
