I want to skip the user logon screen completely and go
straight to the desktop, just like in the old versions of
windows. It's a home computer and we don't want to have
separate user profiles - just one. How do I do that?

To enable automatic logon of XP HE and XP Pro
(not joined to a domain):

- [Start] | Run |
control userpasswords2
[Enter]

- /Users\
[ ] "Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer"
[Enter]

- In the "Automatically Log On" dialog box,
type the user name and password for the account
to be logged on each time the computer starts.

- Reboot the computer.

Click Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2", and click Ok.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option, and click Ok.

Even if you don't see them, Windows XP will always have several user
accounts - that's how it is structured.
