Customizing Animation

What I am trying to do is have all of column left and the first two bullets
of column right come up at once -- that is, with no animation. Then to
sequence in points 3, 4, 5 in column right.

You can do this.

Select column 2

Add the animation of choice and then in the custom animation pane click the
little double arrow below it. This should expand the animation so that you
can see all lines select the first two and then click remove. Select the
others and make sure they are set to "on click"
