Hi,

On our web site, we'd like users to be able to download a file to a
desktop that they click on and it takes them straight to our web page.
The only hitch is that we'd like the file to have its own custom icon
on the Desktop -- instead of the default web browser icon. Also, we
don't necessarily want to change the default web browser icon for all
other web files.

How can we pull this off?

Thanks, - Dave

Check out www.earthlight.net. I have an icon file, named favicon.ico, on
the root of my web site. Once the site is loaded the icon is presented
alongside the URL in the Address field, as well as any shortcut (Favorites
or Desktop, etc).

I'm presently using IE7 Beta, and have found on occasion that this nice
effect comes and goes, and I think the problem may have some relationship
with cookie retention, or it could be the old problems people have had with
Active Desktop, well, forever.

HTH.
