Customized art for master slide makes it too heavy

Several ad agencies I have been working with design background for Powerpoint master slide (usually jpg format) and when we insert them onto the master slide it makes the presentation really heavy (e.g. 1 MB for 6 slides with a 50 pickels of resolution for the jpg)...there must be a better way to have decent size for an overall presentation...
