Installed Office xp last week, all ok...this morning go to
customize toolbar and get error msg window that "Outlook
encountered problems and needs to close. Sorry for the
inconvenience.." I have done a Detect and Repair,
Reinstall, and Finally Remove and Reinstall and the
problem still exists. Any ideas how to get Outlook back
working like it should?

TIA
Joel

Diane: Thanks BUT...
I found and deleted outcmd.dat and still have problem. If
I choose customize for toolbar options, error msg and
outlook starts over again. any other ideas??

Kinda sucks that one can't really get rid of outlook and
reload from scratch.

TIA, Joel

Since it happens when you try using customize and a new outcmd doesn't fix
it (it really should), I would delete extend.dat and the *.pip files.

What OS are you using and if Windows 2000/XP, are you logged on as an
administrator?

Cricket:

Windows XP Pro and yes, logon as admin. Well have now
deleted following files:
outcmd.dat
extend.dat
*.pip

and unfortunately the problem still exists. In Other
Office aps the customize toolbar option works.

Any thing to do next??

TIA,
Joel

Thanks for your help. The problem is generated by

I'm stumped... you could try deleting the *.srs for your profile, although
I've only ever seen it cause a crash when you access the Send/Receive menu,
not customize.
