How do you customize what programs boot during startup on
xp

See "How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310560). Once you have found out
what applications you do not want and do not need to start with
Windows, you can delete them from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\services
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

You can use go to start|run and type msconfig and view all
the startup options there. You also have some things in
your startup folder as well. You can also use the
administrator tools | services to remove some of those
services that automatically start up. Those are the
various places that I know of to change my startup
options.

This could be due to a virus infection, so you may want to scan the
system with a good virus scanner at first.
