I am having a horrible time trying to customize my HP 3500 to allow for
printing on an index card (3x5).

I am able to configure the printer to have the custom page size on tray
1 of 3x5 but documents just ignore it and print as they please. I am
having particular difficulty with Adobe PDF files.

Any ideas?

look at "page setup" or "Document properties" in whatever program you
are using to try and print to the 3x5 card... if it's not set to 3x5 it
will reset the printer and attempt to print in whatever format the doc
is set to (which defaults to 8.5x11 in 99.9% of all programs)

Thanks for the response.

The page is definitely set to 3x5... it was actually designed just for
that. And I can get it to work on my inkjet... but for whatever reason
the HP 3500 seems to just default back to the old 8.5x11 view.

Are you using WinXP?
If so there are, with some laser printer drivers, 2 places that you have to set
the tray definitions. If you only set it in one place it does not always work.
Go to the Properties page and set any tabs that need to be set for paper size
in that tray, then go to printing Preferences and do the same.
This may or may not apply to your printer.
